Rifaximin 400mg Tablet is an antibiotic that treats hepatic encephalopathy, a condition in which the liver fails to remove harmful toxins from the blood, leading to brain damage. It is also used to treat infectious diarrhea. It works by killing and stopping the growth of harmful bacteria in the intestines.

Clindamycin is used to treat certain types of bacterial infections, including infections of the lungs, skin, blood, female reproductive organs, and internal organs. Clindamycin is in a class of medications called lincomycin antibiotics. It works by slowing or stopping the growth of bacteria.

Clindamycin belongs to the family of medicines called antibiotics. Topical clindamycin is used to help control acne. It may be used alone or with one or more other medicines that are used on the skin or taken by mouth for acne. Topical clindamycin may also be used for other problems as determined by your doctor.

Rifaximin 550 mg tablets (brand names include Xifaxan, Rifaxim, Rixmin, Rifagut, etc.) are primarily used to treat certain gastrointestinal conditions caused by bacteria, including hepatic encephalopathy and irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D).    Primary UsesRifaximin works as a localized, broad-spectrum antibiotic within the gut because very little of the medication is absorbed into the bloodstream.   

• Hepatic Encephalopathy (HE) Recurrence Rifaximin is indicated to reduce the risk of recurrent episodes of overt hepatic encephalopathy in adults with severe liver disease. In this condition, the liver cannot effectively remove toxins like ammonia from the blood, which affects brain function. Rifaximin lowers the levels of ammonia-producing bacteria in the intestines to help manage symptoms. It is often used in combination with lactulose.
• Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Diarrhea (IBS-D) The 550 mg tablet strength is used to treat symptoms of IBS-D in adults, such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, and bloating. The typical dose for this condition is one 550 mg tablet three times a day for 14 days, and the treatment course can be repeated up to two times if symptoms return.
• Traveler's Diarrhea While a 200 mg strength tablet is typically used for traveler's diarrhea caused by noninvasive strains of E. coli, the 550 mg tablet may also be prescribed in different dosing regimens (e.g., 550 mg once daily, or in some cases a 200 mg dose three times daily using the 200 mg tablet). It is not effective for diarrhea with fever or blood in the stool, as these symptoms may indicate a more invasive bacterial infection that requires a different antibiotic.

• Prescription Only Rifaximin is a prescription medication and should only be used as directed by a healthcare provider.
• Administration Tablets can be taken with or without food, but should be swallowed whole (not crushed or chewed).
• Side Effects Common side effects can include dizziness, nausea, headache, and peripheral edema (swelling of the hands, ankles, or feet). A harmless reddish discoloration of the urine can also occur.
• When to Seek Medical Attention Contact your doctor immediately if you experience severe diarrhea (especially with fever or blood in the stool), signs of an allergic reaction (hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat), or unusual bleeding/bruising.
