Fosfomycin trometamol sachets, typically containing 3 grams of actual fosfomycin (which results in an 8-gram sachet of powder), are primarily used to treat and prevent bacterial infections of the urinary tract, specifically uncomplicated bladder infections (cystitis) in women and female adolescents. Key UsesThe main uses for oral fosfomycin trometamol sachets include:

• Treatment of uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs), especially those caused by susceptible bacteria like E. coli.
• Management of cystitis (inflammation of the bladder due to bacterial infection).
• Prevention of UTIs in certain high-risk patients or those undergoing specific urological procedures, such as a transrectal prostate biopsy in men. 

Important Information

• Mechanism of Action: Fosfomycin works by preventing bacteria from forming their cell walls, which kills them. It also reduces the ability of bacteria to attach to the lining of the bladder.
• Dosage: For uncomplicated UTIs, it is typically a single dose. The powder must be completely dissolved in a glass of cold water and drunk immediately.
• Consult a Doctor: This medication is available by prescription only and should be used under the guidance of a healthcare professional. It is not recommended for children under 12 years of age or patients with severe kidney problems or those undergoing hemodialysis.
